Bicolor tourmaline forms when the chemistry of the crystal changes while it grows. In this stone the change is sharp. About a third of the length is mint green, the rest is lavender pink, and the boundary between them shows a thin band of blue as the stone moves.

The fine step cut suits it. Long parallel facets lay the colours out in clean bands, so the change from green to lavender reads straight across the table instead of breaking up into sparkle. At 27 mm it has the length for a statement ring or a pendant that hangs on its own.

Loupe clean, with no heat and no treatment of any kind.
